Theatres and Auditoriums

The Yehudi Menuhin School

The international music school founded by violinist Yehudi Menuhin; “An absolute gem of a building with a phenomenally low budget”. Winners of the Small Building Project Award at the British Construction Industry Awards 2008 at which it was described as “A delightful building…demonstrating that traditional methods of design and procurement can still work extremely well when carried out with strong leadership, commitment by all parties and good communication”. A £2.5m concert hall, foyer, entertaining room, changing rooms and back of house spaces incorporating an acoustic shell and specialist lighting installations working with architects, Burrell Foley Fischer, Anne Minors acoustic theatre consultants and Michael Popper services consultants.

Sevenoakes School, Kent

An £8.8m Performing Arts Centre due for completion in January 2010, working in conjunction with Tim Ronalds Architects and Max Fordham services consultants. It will comprise a main auditorium, a concert hall accommodating up to 500 people, music and drama schools with numerous teaching and practice rooms, a new drama studio, recital room and foyer. The existing theatre is to be improved and will be linked to the new building. In line with current trends it has a highly sustainable, low energy design. It combines high quality acoustic design and extensive daylighting with an innovative natural ventilation system which uses borehole ground water for cooling.

Benenden School, Kent

A £5m Performing Arts Centre working with architects, Burrell Foley Fischer, Environmental Design Associates services consultants and Theatre Plan (Theatre Consultants). It comprises a concert hall with teaching and practice rooms.

Burlington Danes Academy

A £3.5m new Performing Arts Centre comprising of a main auditorium and teaching spaces. We are working with architect Barnsley Hewett & Mallinson and Arup services consultants. This project incorporates 3 wind turbines.

Sports Facilities

Wycombe Abbey School for Girls, Buckinghamshire

A £5m state of the art sports centre working with architects, Barnsley Hewett & Mallinson and Hoare Lea services consultant. The building accommodates a reinforced concrete 25m swimming pool, 4 squash courts, gymnasium, sports hall, fitness studio, climbing wall, changing rooms, café and offices.

Hackney Lido, London

A £4m refurbishment of a 50m public lido (swimming pool) comprising a new pool ‘tank’, state of the art plant room, new changing and office facilities along with refurbishment of existing changing rooms with new services throughout. We worked with S&P architects and Van Zyl & de Villiers services consultants.

Tonbridge School, Tonbridge, Kent

A £10.7m Centre for Sports and Media working with the school, project managers, CM Parker Browne, architects, Limbrick Ltd, and TPS (the Carillion Group) services consultants. The centre houses a new 6 lane swimming pool, indoor sports hall, a fitness suite and a media suite which allows the school to transmit live coverage of sports events. It includes a combined heat and power unit (CHP) for energy efficiency.

Haberdashers’ Aske’s School for Girls in Elstree

A £6m new sports centre containing a Myrtha Pool ® swimming pool (patented to use steel wall panels and a PVC liner rather than traditional tiling), changing rooms and shower facilities and a fully fitted first floor fitness suite.

Dulwich College, Dulwich, South East London

A £2.3m new sports complex completed in 2002 with architects, Barnsley Hewett & Mallinson, and Hoare Lea services consultants. It included a 25 m swimming pool equipped with the latest timing facilities for competitions and gala events, full shower and changing facilities.

The Hurlingham Private Members Club

A £1.3m new gymnasium working with architects, Michael Squires & Partners, and Halcrow Yolles services Consultants. It comprised a cold cathode lighting system, extensive TV and audio equipment and a state of the art gym including pneumatic resistance equipment requiring a compressed air installation. We managed the electrical enabling package to divert and redistribute the main electrical intake (which was sited on the footprint of the new building) whilst maintaining club facilities on this 43 acre site.


Burlington Danes Academy, White City, London

A £7.1m teaching facility in conjunction with architects, Barnsley Hewett and Mallinson and Arup services consultants, containing 16 classrooms, four science laboratories and a number of ancillary offices, staff rooms and break out areas. The plant room for this project was built off site and subsequently craned into position to assist with programming. It also incorporated 5 wind turbines.

Study Group, Greenwich, London

A £3.4m three storey building for international students working with architects, William Martin & Partners. There was no services consultant as it was a Design and Build project. The building provided three rows of classroom to accommodate a range of functions including general teaching, ICT and science laboratories, a central library, café, restaurant, bookshop and offices .

Goldwyn Community Special School, Kent

The demolition and new-build of this entire school incorporating brand new, purpose-built accommodation with top quality ICT hardware, sound recording studio, a design and technology suite, science laboratory and art room together with a large sports hall for assemblies and drama productions. Architects, Cattell Skinner. There was no services consultant as it was a Design and Build project. We managed the enabling package to allow the part demolition of the existing buildings whist the school was still in use and new construction to commence.

St Theresa’s School

A £2m new school wing and nursery block comprising large sports hall and class rooms. Services were on a Design and Build basis to a BREEAM ‘very good’ rating assessed by ECO Consult on behalf of the Council. Architects, Miller Bourne. It incorporated rain water harvesting to minimise water usage.

St Dominic’s 6th Form College

A New wing comprising science laboratories and classrooms on a Design and Build basis. Architects, Kenneth Reed Associates and services consultants, Hilson Moran.

Dulwich College, London

A new £7m two storey block in conjunction with Barnsley Hewett & Mallinson Architects and Troup Bywaters & Anders, services consultants, providing sports changing and shower facilities on the ground floor, eight classrooms, economics and careers suite above and a sixth form centre and cafeteria spanning both floors. Part of this project was refurbishing an existing plant room to service not only the new build but also the existing building without disrupting services.

Local Authorities

Turner Contemporary Gallery, Margate, Kent

A £13.5m new art gallery on the sea-front site of a former guest house frequented by the artist, Turner. Commissioned on behalf of Kent County Council and the Arts Council, it is set to become a landmark 21st Century British building with a “strong sculptural presence”. Working with David Chipperfield Architects and Arup services consultants, it is due to open in 2011. Its sea-front location requires marine specification, installations and equipment. It will comprise the gallery space in addition to a shop and café with panoramic sea views. From an M&E perspective, close liaison is required with the RNLI to ensure that services are not disrupted and the clear access is available to launch the lifeboat situated next door! It will also incorporate a ground source heat pump with 21 energy piles.

The Museum of London

A £8.5m refurbishment of New City Gallery (home of the Lord Mayors coach), lecture theatre, teaching facilities, main display galleries and café area. Architect, Wilkinson Eyre and SVM Consulting Engineers. We are working in an operational public building and carrying out the refurbishment of existing heating services for not only our areas of construction but also the rest of the museum and adjoining office complex.

The Lightbox, Woking

Woking’s £7m new gallery and museum complex. Achitects, Marks Barfield and services consultants, Max Fordham. It uses a combined heat and power (CHP) source for its heating and power along with photovoltaics and largely passive ventilation throughout.

Private Houses

We also undertake refurbishment and new build works of large private houses in London and the Home Counties ranging from £3 million to £18 million which use state of the art lighting, AV, air-conditioning and swimming pool plant. We have incorporated many energy efficient solutions.

Private Members Clubs

The Hurlingham Private Members Club

A £20m new build banqueting facility incorporating state of the art ICT (data), lighting and air-conditioning along with heat recovery. The services installation was in excess of £6m of the value of this project. We also installed a fountain which included a swimming pool style plant room to maintain water quality to pool standards.
